CANNY PLACES TO STAY

 

For Tourists from the Toon:

 

Budget: (<S$100)

 

Shang Onn Hotel - 37 Beach Rd, just north of Raffles Hotel and just past Beach Centre. Central, quiet, tidy & spacious. Singles S$30+, Doubles S$40+.

 

Hotel 81 - 31 Lorong 18 & 20 Lorong 16, less central but newer, Air/Con, TV and in house video, IDD phones etc.

Singles / Doubles $59+ (more at the weekend).

 

YMCA - 1 Orchard Rd, A/C, TV etc, very central but more expensive:- Singles S$85+, Doubles S$90+. Reservations needed (6 weeks in advance).

Traders Hotel, Orchard Spring Lane

Westin Stamford, Stamford Road

Pheonix Hotel, Somerset Road

Pan Pacific Hotel, Raffles Boulevard

Totally Posh: (S$400+) - got no idea cos we've never stayed there, but they must be nice!

For Expats from the Toon:

Check the Straits Times Classified Section on Saturdays:

 

HDB Government Apartments:

Mass produced but can be very nice indeed, areas recommended are Marine Parade, Bishan, Tampines. Only Government approved flats can be rented to foreigners. Expect rent: S$1300 - S$1900.

 

Private Condominiums:

Some great places with facilities like pools & tennis courts, areas recommended are East Coast and River Valley. Expect rent: S$2000 - S$4,000+ per month
